Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do you have any tips in helping me select a contractor?

A. Price: In choosing the best price, make sure that you compare apples-to-apples. Compare written estimates (not verbal promises) regarding the amount of preparation, quality of materials, number of coats, etc. The lowest price is seldom the best price.

Promptness: A contractor who keeps the appointment for an estimate is more likely to arrive promptly for the job and complete the project on time.

Communications: How a contractor responds to phone calls can be an indication of your ability to contact him/her after the work begins. If you must wait days for a return phone call, will the same occur after the job starts?

Insurance: Adequate insurance is important for your protection. You will be provided with a Certificate of Insurance from NOVA painting.

Warranty: A professional contractor will stand behind his work and will offer a written warranty.

Written Proposal: A well written proposal will carefully describe what is included in the job. This allows both parties to clarify any omissions or misunderstandings. The proposal speaks volumes about the professionalism of the contractor.

References: Any contractor should be able to produce a list of good references.

Consumer awareness: No two jobs are exactly alike. A professional contractor will seek to learn what you need and/ or desire. He/she will listen to your comments and questions, and make recommendations suited to your purposes.

Trust: A contractor may be at or in your home for a week or longer. Be certain that you feel comfortable with him\her.

Q. Do you accept credit cards?

A. Yes we do accept most major credit cards.

Q. What is your payment Requirement?

A. We require a 1/3 deposit upon acceptance with the remaining 2/3 upon completion. Some larger projects may require performance payment.

Q. Should I use flat, satin or semi-gloss paint?

A. The sheen would depend on the results you wish to achieve. Flat paints have greater touch up qualities. Satin and semi-gloss finishes are more washable but, they also tend to show any imperfections on the surface of the object being painted.

Q. How long will my exterior painting job last?

A. Generally exterior painting job will need to be redone every 5-7 years. Stucco tends to last longer, wood on the other hand expands and contracts more with changing temperatures which loosens the paint sooner.

It is best not to put off your exterior painting until the house is badly peeling. When it gets to that condition it will end up costing you more in preparation time and possibly rotten wood replacement.

If however the property is in a bad condition when you get to it, do yourself a favor - go the extra length and ensure that thorough surface preparation is done. The idea is to create a sound surface for the new coats to adhere to. This requires more time but is necessary for the paint job to last.

Q. What kind of paint do you use?

A. NOVA Painting uses only the best quality paints from Sherwin-Williams, Duron and Benjamin Moore. Which company we use on your project is determined by Customer preference and or Type of work to be done. In some cases' specialty coatings from other manufacturers will be used.

Q. How do our prices compare to other contractors?

A. Our prices are very competitive when you are comparing the same service. We only use top quality paints with top manufacturers. We focus on only top-notch preparation in order to make our job last and we carry full workers' compensation coverage as well as $2,000,000 in liability insurance. When you combine this with a 2 year warrantee and compare us to other contractors, we know you will find us to be the best value around.

Q. Who does the work and who will supervise the job?

A. NOVA Painting uses the “Lead Painter” system. Each of our experienced Lead Painters works with and manages a set crew of two or three painters, all of which are fulltime employees. Crew leaders do not change throughout the job. The continuity of this system offers many advantages, for example, the crew is more productive and efficient as a team because they understand each other's style and skills. The owner and or operations mgr will always be available to answer any questions, or solve any issues.

Q. Will you complete my job from start to finish without interruptions?

A. Yes. We believe every client is equally important and we would not jeopardize our relationship with interruptions.

Q. Does it cost anything to get an estimate from NOVA Painting concerning my next project?

A. Absolutely Not! As a matter of fact we have made it easy for you to start right now. Just click here for an estimate request!
